The Life Is Too Short Guy

By: Scott White

I am excited to announce the October book choice for Courtney’s Corner! The Life Is Too Short Guy (LITSG) by Scott White is an incredibly inspirational and uplifting book! As soon as I began reading this book, I did not want to put it down due to the contagious level of positivity and motivation it offers! Through powerful storytelling from Scott’s own life to weaving in stories from others, he presents the reader with a clear understanding of how to live a happier and more fulfilled life.

Everyone can benefit from LITSG! The simplistic philosophy depicts not only a way of life, but also a way of thinking. Scott’s energy and confidence are the driving forces behind his philosophy and his life motivation. While the core of the philosophy is that “life is too short”, ten principles define the foundation on which LITSG is built. As a former gymnast myself, I appreciated the reference to the ten principles Scott discusses with the perfect ten in gymnastics. I will list my two favorite principles from the book.

The first principle I want to discuss is Attitude Is Everything; The Power Of Positivity. Scott incorporates insightful research behind the points he made discussing this principle. He emphasized the importance of how attitude is everything and how to view each day through a positive lens. Take time to reflect on how grateful you are to have what you have in life. Scott shares his story of appreciating the opportunity to become an investment banking associate at his first job. In this position, Scott always took it upon himself to make the most out of each task he took on. The importance of maintaining a positive attitude and practicing gratefulness allowed Scott to be successful. Ultimately, by focusing on your attitude and perspective, you can control your own happiness.

The second principle I enjoyed reading about and gaining an insightful understanding of was Live Today…Don’t Wait For Tomorrow. I enjoyed reading about this principle because it made me reflect on the LITSG perspective that while we may not know when we will pass in this lifetime, LITSG finds inspiration now by looking ahead to the end. Scott emphasizes the importance of living in the present moment. Understanding what you want to be remembered for and focusing on what is important to you in this lifetime will allow you to live your life to the fullest. Too many times we compare our success to those around us or spend too much time worrying about what others will think. Scott provides excellent LITSG reflections at the end of this chapter that allowed me to reflect on and apply them to my own life. Make the effort to live in the present moment and enjoy it!

I ultimately enjoyed reading this book due to the relatability Scott offers throughout it. He speaks about the truths we all face in life and can relate to. By addressing the fact there will be highs and lows in life, Scott shares an honest reality that life is not all celebrations, while addressing the inevitable truth there will be challenges and setbacks along the way. He shares his perspective on how we can view these difficult times by positively applying the LITSG philosophy. We can then find happiness and gratefulness, well anywhere!

If you are looking for a positive and uplifting book that will inspire you to live your best life, look no further. The Life Is Too Short Guy is the perfect book that embodies positivity and a guide that will help you achieve a happier and an even more meaningful life! A perfect ten in my book, pun intended!:)
