As a student-athlete, a positive outlook has served as the foundation for my path, influencing my experiences in soccer, college, and beyond. The University of Tennessee’s Division 1 soccer program has put me to the test in ways I never would have thought possible. I’ve had setbacks, injuries, and self-doubt, but I’ve discovered that the most difficult times are when progress occurs. Maintaining your optimism requires tackling obstacles head-on with faith, resilience, and a will to improve rather than dismissing them.
Balancing soccer and a business education at the Haslam School of Business has been demanding, yet it has taught me discipline, time management, and the power of perspective. There were times when anxiety crept in—stress from exams, the pressure to perform on the field, and the uncertainty of the future. Throughout these experiences, I have discovered that attitude is crucial. I’ve taught myself to look at the chances in every problem rather than what might go wrong. Every game is an opportunity to get better. I am getting closer to my objectives with each class. Every failure serves as an opportunity for success.
My career aspirations have also been fueled by this mindset. This summer, I have the amazing opportunity to intern with MLB in their sponsorship department in NYC. This is a step into a competitive industry, but I approach it with the same mindset that has carried me through college and soccer: curiosity, confidence, and a willingness to learn. I know there will be challenges, but I also know I have the tools to succeed.
I have witnessed firsthand the power of a strong mindset through soccer, education, and my professional journey. It turns challenges into opportunities and propels you toward your greatest potential. Being positive isn’t about being overly optimistic; it is about believing in your ability to overcome challenges, trusting the process, and maintaining your faith.
